Some definitions of medical terms

Here are some of the terms used in the product descriptions defined.

Back brace - This is any application or apparatus to be worn to support the spinal column, the posture or the body shape, or to correct misconfigurations of the spinal column.

Catheter- Any kind of tube that is inserted in a body opening or connected to the body for any purpose is called a cathter. Most often a catheter is used to drain or instill fluids, for example urine catheters inserted into the urethra.

Enema - Enema is instilling lluids into the rectum and possible also the colon. It is usually done with a syringe inserted some centimeters into the rectum, but can also be instilled by a flexible tube inserted figher up in the rectum or colon. Usually an enama is used to clean out the content of the terminal part of the digestive tract (rectum and colon). It is also used to instill contrast substances by x-ray or ultrasound investigations

Irrigation- Irrigation is the same as flushing some hollow cavity clean with water or special rinsing fluids and by some tube or equipment that reaches into the place where the substance to be cleaned out is. The fluid may be set to run in and out continuously or pumped in and expelled many times after each other. Medically irrigation of the rectum and bowel is most frequently done, but irrigation of the nose, ear, eye, vagina or bladder may also sometimes be performed.

Percussion - This is a massage techique where tha massager keeps hitting directly downwards towards the areea massaged.

Urinary catheter- A tube inserted into the urethra to drain urin or to instill medicines into the bladder.

Foley catheter- A special kind of tube to drain urine, bladder irrigation or installation of drugs into the bladder. It has one channel for drainage, one channelø for irrigation and a baloon that can be inflated with air through a third channel. The ballon holds the catheter in place in the bladder.

Syringe- Any equipment with a conical or thin end used to press flud into the body or draw fluid out of the body is called a syringe.

Hypodermal syringe - This is the common device with a hollow needle to be stuck through the skin and used to press fluid into the body or draw fluids out of the body.

Percussion massage - This a massage techique where repetitive movements, vibration or hits down and up on the field being massaged are performed. It is also called tapotement massage.

Screening - Screening is standard examinations or measurments at regular intervals to detect symptoms of a new disease or changes in an existing disease.

Ultraviolet rays or light - These are electromagnetic waves whith a frequency adjacent to and greater than the frequency of visible light, and consequenly also a have shorter wavelength than visible light. Ultraviolet light is able to kill bacteria.
